Peter Muzyka's Art Work in Progress Page 2-
On this page I will highlight more current art in progress. When completed, the finished piece will be added to the Art page. I'll endeavor to explain what is behind the painting or drawing that I am working on and give a step-by-step account of its production.

Sketch of Ibis with egg tempera wash
After the initial pencil drawing, I prepare a dark wash of tempera using ultramarine blue and burnt umber. I outline the main features and fill in the darkest shadow areas.
Drawing of Ibis in tempera paint
This is the completed dark wash before I begin adding color to the panel.
Underpainting in egg tempera on Ibis painting
At this stage I do a lay-in of color for an underpainting. I use colors that reflect the mood of the final piece that I am looking for.
The images above represent the a current painting I am working on called "Sparring for Lunch". It is a painting of an Ibis bird from Sanibel Island in Florida which I had visited in April of 2007. The images represent the black outlining and shadowing I paint on the panel after the initial drawing. The final painting will be available as a Giclée print beginning Sept 25th, 2007.
Thank you for your interest.

Green and red-brown aree the main underpainting colors for this egg tempera piece.
More work on the under painting.
At work on painting the color on my Ibis egg tempera piece.
I keep a piece of translucent paper under my arm while painting to prevent scratching the delicate egg tempera finish.
Shadow under painting on the Ibis egg tempera painting.
At this stage I rough in a shadow effect as an under painting of the Ibis itself.
At these stages, the background under painting is complete and I begin to build realistic color and after that details for my painting.
Adding a crab and painting detail on the Ibis egg tempera painting.
At this stage I decided that I wanted to work up the Ibis before proceeding on the landscape. I have also added a crab for the Ibis to be sparring with.
More work on the Ibis and crab.
At this stage I have added a considerable amount of the detailing that I expect to do on the Ibis and crab and will concentrate on landscape detailing now.
Painting the leaves and mangrove roots in the Ibis egg tempera painting.
Working on the details of the landscape mangrove roots, etc.

At this stage I am refining the details and coloring of the egg tempera painting.
Final egg tempera painting of the Sanibel Island Florida Ibis.
The final painting in egg tempera on panel. Sept 20, 2007.
The final painting was purchased by a private collector in 2007.
